The Coeur d’Alene Resort is one of the most recognizable structures in the Pacific Northwest, and it was built in 1927. The tower, which stands on the turquoise waters of Lake Coeur d’Alene and is bordered by Idaho’s iconic mountains, is a site that people associate with wonderful memories – whether they be of sailing on the water, strolling around downtown, or seeing thousands of Christmas lights come to life.
Coeur d’Alene Resort has been a downtown landmark for decades, and it continues to be so today. It had humble beginnings before rising to become the iconic figure that it is today.
It was in 1965 that the North Shore Resort first opened its doors in the same site, and it was in 1973 that the seven-story tower was finished. Ten years later, Hagadone Hospitality purchased the structure and renovated it, renaming it “The Coeur d’Alene: A Resort on the Lake” to better reflect the location.
In May 1986, a freshly rebuilt resort opened its doors. It stood 18 floors tall and contained 338 guest rooms. Hagadone Hospitality, which eventually became the Hagadone Corporation, was based in the edifice, which was known as the Lake Tower.
When the resort first opened its doors in 1986, Forbes magazine published a story with the headline: “Duane Hagadone has constructed himself a luxurious resort in the midst of nothing.” Why?”
However, now, it is simple to see how Duane Hagadone’s vision came to fruition: with towering mountains, lush forests, and a glistening lake, Coeur d’Alene is a popular tourist destination for both vacationers and business visitors alike, according to the National Park Service. The Coeur d’Alene Resort has attracted people from all walks of life, from families riding bikes down the Centennial Trail to convention attendees squeezing in a round of golf on the famous Floating Green, and it continues to do so. Even locals are known to attend Dockside Restaurant for the restaurant’s famed Gooey dessert, which is served daily.
As part of its expansion, the Hagadone Corporation created Coeur d’Alene Cruises, which offers passengers an unforgettable experience on Lake Coeur d’Alene, offering everything from animal viewing and picturesque sails to the annual Holiday Light Show tour.
