Coeur d'Alene Idaho

Here in North Idaho, the winter months sometimes drive us a bit crazy with boredom. If you aren’t actively working on getting outside and trying new activities, you may find yourself feeling down or depressed-like. For those who prefer to stay indoors, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite winter activities for families and children in Coeur d’Alene, including cruises on Lake Coeur d’Alene and hot chocolate in downtown:

Take a look at the eagles.

The migration of bald eagles to Lake Coeur d’Alene is one of the most spectacular sights to behold in North Idaho during the winter months. The Pacific Northwest lake, notably Higgins Point, is home to these gorgeous beasts during the months of December and January, when they come to dine on salmon and other fish. During our daily Eagle Watching Cruises, Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruises travels out to the area to provide you the opportunity to have a close-up and personal look at these magnificent birds. Remember to bring your camera!

Make yourself a cup of hot chocolate (or something stronger!) and relax.

Coffee shops and cafés abound in downtown Coeur d’Alene, making it a great place to stop for a cup of hot cocoa on a cold winter day. Take use of the cabin within your cruise ship on Lake Coeur d’Alene for a hot beverage! While enjoying a hot toddy at Whispers, assuming your group is a little older (and of legal drinking age! ), take in the breathtaking view of Lake Coeur d’Alene.

Take a stroll around the Floating Boardwalk.

In between winter storms, Coeur d’Alene transforms into a stunning winter wonderland of lights. Check out the Holiday Lights Show on the Floating Boardwalk, which takes place every year between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. Alternatively, in January, bundle up in hats and mittens and stroll along the promenade and around downtown parks with the kids (a fantastic way to burn off some energy!).

Learn everything you can about your house.

A cruise with Lake CDA Cruises is more than just an afternoon on the water; it’s a vacation experience. The instructive nature of our tours ensures that you will learn about the lakes and rivers, as well as the history of our beautiful town, while you are on board the boat.

Spend quality time with your family.

Winter is a terrific time to go out of the home and see something new with your family, so take advantage of the opportunity. During the spring and summer, when outdoor activities and other obligations keep you occupied, you may feel as if your family is being pushed in a number of different directions at the same time. Because the children are not in school during the winter months, there is less to do. When it comes to getting out with friends, now is the time to do so! Check out the holiday lights downtown or take a cruise on Lake Coeur d’Alene with the whole family!
